Pet Day Vaseline Saucer

 We have Pet Day at Ohaeawai School every year and one of the activities we do is to create a symmetrical design on a saucer using flower petals. You put Vaseline on the saucer first to make the flowers stick. That’s why they are called Vaseline Saucers. Here is a pic of me with mine:

Art Week 5

 We have been learning about using apps on our Chromebook to create images that look like mosaics or stained glass windows. We used Google Draw to make some and some people also used Google Draw. Here is the image I made using Google Draw. I chose to make Peppa Pig because my little brother likes Pepper Pig.

 We have been learning about abstract art. It’s all about creating works of art that don’t actually look like anything. We focused on the American artist Frank Stella, who liked to make pictures using shapes like circles, triangles and rectangles.

I chose to work with Harlem, Saxdyn and Mrs B to think about some ideas.

Cross Country Week 10 Term 3

 We had to do a handwriting sample this week. My handwriting is not that good but it’s way better than the start of the year.

Maths 3D Clock Week 10 Term 3

Yesterday, for maths we had to read a step by step procedure for making a 3D clock. It was very tricky. We had to measure in centimetres to make equilateral triangles, measure the angles with a protractor to check they were 60 degrees, make a clock face and arrows and tie it all together with string. I was glad when I finished. The clock hands were the hardest part. Here is a picture of my clock.

It was about a dingo who caught a wombat and tried to make wombat stew. But, it didn’t work.

It was about a dingo who caught a wombat and tried to make wombat stew. But, it didn’t work….

 I chose to make a cage with sticks and rope so the wombat will get trapped.

 For the last two weeks we have been learning about different kinds of poetry for reading and writing. I decided to publish this poem. It is an Opposites poem.

Matariki Day

In Week 9, Term 2 , we had a day of activities based on Matariki. We got sorted into groups and did rotations. Most of us got to do 2 different activities but some only did one activity if it took a long time. I chose to take part in: Making kite.  We have been learning how to ask questions in Te Reo. The question was :

This writing task was about a language experience. Our teachers brought different kinds of chocolate to school and we got to eat it! We tried white chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, caramel chocolate and pink chocolate. We could write about it in any way we liked but our teachers hoped we would use lots of describing language and our senses.

The old chuch

In Week 7, our class went to look at the outside of the old church building which is next to our school. We had to write using lots of adjectives, adverbs, specific nouns and vivid verbs so that we described it well. We tried to remember to use ideas from our senses and to write about not just what we thought the old church looked like but also how it made us feel.

The goal of this writing activity was to tell the step-by-step life cycle of a cicada. We had to remember to use sequencing adverbs at the beginning of each step/paragraph.
